Boundary Line Maintenance
True North can maintain your old boundary line marks or help you hire a registered land surveyor to reestablish or establish new ones. Boundary Lines are marked by painting highly visible paint strips on trees that fall on the boundary line or in close proximity to the line. Marked boundary lines are an important asset to a well-maintained forest. By having your boundaries marked you increase the chances of avoiding trespass or timber theft when an adjacent landowner harvests their timber.

Cost-Share Assistance
There is a maze of cost-share programs and options with which to choose. New cost-share programs are developed yearly and without knowledge of them and how to apply for them you will never know how to tap into their resources and reduce your forest management expenses.
Most federal and state programs will refund you from 40% to 75% of your reforestation costs and conservation practices such as understory burning, crop tree release, herbicide release, and wildlife habitat improvements. The Conservation Reserve Program (CRP and CREP), in addition to assisting with reforestation expenses, will also pay the landowner an annual rental payment per acre for up to 10 years.
I have a working knowledge of these programs and can explain to you your options under FDP, CRP, CREP, WHIP, Partnership and CURE programs. I am also a Technical Service Provider (TSP) registered with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). They have certified me as contractor to plan, design, and check the installation
of forestry and wildlife conservation practices.
Let me help you wade through and explain your options and ultimately save you money.
Recreational Trail Enhancements
Recreational trails are also part of the planning process. For hiking, horseback riding, ATV riding, mountain biking, trails can be designed that take in the natural features of a property and oftentimes get them built through the course of a timber harvest.
True North can help you design and construct recreational trails on your property. We have access to specialized equipment to install access and roads that will improve your propertys accessibility and enjoyment for all types of recreational use.

Forest Aesthetics
Aesthetics are an important part of any management plan. Managing for the natural beauty along a trail or waterway is important when considering any forest management activities. Scenic vistas can be created through management where dense forest obstructs an otherwise breathtaking view. Trail systems can be designed to take in all the natural features that a property possesses. Timber harvests can be designed to minimize the negative visually impacts with proper planning and use of buffers and clean up.

Let True North Forest Management Services help you qualify for forestry land-use tax evaluation and reduce the property tax burden from your forestland. The Forest Management Plan that I prepare for you can be used to apply for assessment under the Land Use Taxation Program. Qualifying your property under this program will lower the assessed tax base in your property and can significantly reduce the annual property taxes you owe on your timberland each year. Let me explain the criteria for qualification under the program and help you take the necessary application steps to reducing your property taxes each year.
True North can also help you understand timber taxations and how to file federal income taxes for income you generate from timber sales. There are some key points you need to understand to qualify for long-term capital gains treatment and how to expense a timber sale. There are also federal income-tax credits for reforestation expenses.
